I never really counted how many rides it takes to get me through one work trip.
Usually, it starts with Victory Liner or Solid North from Baguio to Manila. Then a Grab from the bus station to my parents’ house in QC or wherever I’m staying for that particular trip. On meeting days, it’s another Grab, sometimes straight to the venue, sometimes just to the nearest MRT or LRT station. If I’m going to Makati, I’ll usually take the train.

And going “home” to QC can be another series of rides. MRT back to QC, then UV Express to Novaliches. In between meetings, there might be a Grab or taxi. Sometimes a P2P bus makes more sense. What I will not (nor will I ever) try is taking the buwis-buhay Angkas rides.
When I write it all down like that, ang dami pala. I usually just call the whole thing “going to Manila for work.” Which means I spend a lot more time as a commuter than I realized.
I’ve learned that PasaHERO Protect includes coverage for accidental death and permanent disability, with higher benefits for covered accidents involving public transportation. Depending on the plan, public-transport accident coverage can go up to ₱500,000. Plans start at ₱15 per month.
It won’t shorten the bus ride from Baguio. It won’t make EDSA traffic disappear. And it definitely won’t guarantee that the MRT won’t be crowded. But considering how much time I spend getting from one place to another, having some protection while I’m doing it feels practical.
That’s the thing about insurance. You hope you’ll never have to use it. You just want it there while you get on with the ordinary business of living, working, traveling, and eventually finding your way home.
More about PasaHERO Protect
PasaHERO Protect is available through GInsure in the GCash app, in partnership with BPI MS Insurance. There are different plan options, with premiums starting at ₱15 per month. Depending on the plan, coverage for accidental death or permanent disability ranges up to ₱250,000, with double indemnity of up to ₱500,000 for covered public-transport accidents.
To check it out, open GCash → GInsure → Accident → PasaHERO Protect. From there, you can review the available packages, choose a plan, provide the required details, review the terms, and pay through your GCash wallet.
One important detail for fellow travellers: air travel itself isn’t covered by PasaHERO Protect. For me, it’s for all those land-based rides that make up my work trips, from the bus down from Baguio to the trains, taxis, Grab rides and other public transport I use once I’m in Metro Manila.
Always check the latest coverage, eligibility, pricing and terms in the GCash app before purchasing, since product details may change.
